Enzi: Scorekeeping Reports Will Foster Fiscal Transparency in Federal Spending Process

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senate Budget Committee Chairman Mike Enzi (R-WY) announced the release of the October 2019 Senate scorekeeping report.  That report tracks the budgetary impact of legislation approved by Congress against the deemed budgetary numbers included in the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2019.  The Congressional Budget Act of 1974 requires the Chairmen of the House and Senate Budget Committees to provide members of Congress with regular updates on the budgetary effects of congressional action.

Chairman Enzi fulfills this requirement through filings in the Congressional Record that compare current-law levels of spending and revenues to those assumed in the budget resolution.  This information, which is compiled with assistance from the Congressional Budget Office, is now available on the Senate Budget Committee’s website to provide members of Congress and the public with easy access to information regarding the budgetary effects of recently agreed upon legislation.

“Providing regular budgetary updates, like the scorekeeping report, helps foster transparency in the federal spending process," said Chairman Enzi.  "It also helps ensure that Congress is accountable to the American people for how it spends their hard-earned tax dollars.  I look forward to providing these reports regularly to help ensure Congress remains focused on fiscal responsibility.”
