Red Ink Surges for Nation’s Long-Term Economic Outlook

WASHINGTON D.C. – Senator Mike Enzi (R-WY), Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, released the following statement after the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) issued a summary of its Budget and Economic Outlook: 2016 to 2026 that showed that overspending is projected to be $544 billion this year, which is $105 billion more than last year, and would continue to grow over the next 10 years.

“After eight years of failed fiscal policies and wasteful and unaccountable spending, America is faced with a surging national debt that totals almost $19 trillion and a weak economy that is holding back hardworking American families,” said Chairman Enzi.  “We didn’t get here overnight – and we will not fix it overnight. It is time to put our fiscal books in order, in a balanced, responsible way, which is what the American people want and deserve.”
