Whitehouse Statement on the President’s FY 2025 Budget Proposal

Washington, D.C.—Today, Senator Whitehouse (D-RI), Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, issued the following statement after President Biden released his Budget Request for Fiscal Year 2025:

“President Biden has released a fiscally responsible budget that puts the middle class first and lays out a vision for a stronger, safer, and more prosperous America.

“From lowering health care and prescription drug costs for tens of millions of Americans, to ensuring Medicare solvency forever and protecting Social Security, to making higher education more accessible and affordable, President Biden is fiercely fighting for the middle class.

“The President would eliminate tax breaks for Big Oil, close loopholes for corporations that send jobs and profits overseas, and ensure that teachers and firefighters don't pay higher tax rates than billionaires.  MAGA Republicans voted to take a meat cleaver to the kind of pro-growth investments that are creating jobs, driving a clean energy boom, and lowering costs for households across the country.  While the President’s budget would reduce costs for families and cut the deficit by over $3 trillion, MAGA Republicans in the House voted to shower their mega-donors with tax breaks that would blow up the deficit.

“The contrast couldn’t be starker, and the stakes couldn’t be higher.  I look forward to working with the White House and Democrats in Congress to make the President’s vision a reality.”

Tomorrow, March 12, 2024, the Honorable Shalanda D. Young, Director of the Office of Management and Budget, will testify before the Senate Budget Committee on the President’s Fiscal Year 2025 Budget Proposal.
