Graham Amendment to Democrats’ Reckless Tax and Spend Agenda Would Improve Broken Asylum System
WASHINGTON – Senate Budget Committee Ranking Member Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) today introduced an amendment to the Democrats’ fiscal year 2022 budget resolution to improve our broken asylum system.
“The asylum system is being abused. This wave of illegal immigration will never stop unless we fix our laws.
“Hundreds of thousands of people are flocking to the United States and applying for asylum fraudulently. Smugglers and cartels benefit greatly from these loopholes. My amendment is a step in the right direction to stop the abuse and keep money out of criminals’ pockets all while supporting the brave men and women of the Border Patrol.”
The amendment establishes a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to improving the asylum system. If passed, it would allow more funds to go towards problems we are facing at the Southern Border including apprehension of migrants, safe and swift return of migrants to their home countries, interdiction of illegal drugs, resources for Border Patrol officers, and support for immigration judges and asylum officers.
Text of the amendment is available HERE.
