Merkley Condemns Confirmation of Dan Bishop to OMB

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, on a party line vote, Senate Republicans confirmed Dan Bishop to be the Deputy Director at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Ranking Member of the Senate Budget Committee, released the below statement following the confirmation. Merkley, along with every Democrat on the Committee, voted against Bishop’s nomination in committee.

“The law is not a suggestion, and the president is not a king. Government officials swear an oath to the Constitution, not an oath to Donald Trump or Russell Vought,” said Ranking Member Merkley. “Mr. Bishop has said he is willing to violate the law and Constitution if that’s what Donald Trump wants. This is far beyond disqualifying, and Dan Bishop is unfit to serve at OMB.”
