Murray Releases Statement on Updated CBO Projection
Today, Senate Budget Committee Chairman Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following statement on the Congressional Budget Office’s update to the budget and economic outlook from 2014 to 2024:
“Today’s CBO report is further evidence that our near-term budget outlook has improved significantly, with the deficit declining to one-third of where it was just a few years ago, and shows that we should focus on tackling our other deficits in areas like education, jobs, infrastructure, and research, while continuing to look for ways to address our long-term budget challenges. Families across the country have made it clear they support using a balanced approach to our long-term fiscal challenges, which means ending special tax breaks for the biggest corporations, finding smart savings, and continuing to work to bend the health care cost curve responsibly without shifting costs onto seniors and families. I was proud to work on a bipartisan budget deal that restored critical investments in education, jobs, and research—and I am hopeful that we can build on this bipartisan foundation to continue addressing all of our deficits fairly and responsibly.”
